Challenge
A UK-based company hired a new CEO based in the US. Frequent travel between the US and UK/Europe should have been a straightforward mobile requirement. Instead, it was becoming an expensive one.
The CEO was on their own Verizon USA SIM, with no cost-effective roaming or international call bundles built in. Every trip across the Atlantic added to a mobile bill that was already climbing, and there was no easy fix sitting inside a single-carrier, single-country setup.
Two requirements were in tension with each other:
- The CEO wanted to keep their existing US number. Non-negotiable as it's tied to their identity and contacts.
- The company needed to bring the costs down. Also non-negotiable, and squarely the IT manager's problem to solve.
A straight SIM swap would have satisfied one requirement at the expense of the other. The reseller needed a way to satisfy both, and to do it without losing the client's mobile account to someone who could.

Solution
Working with Cellhire, the reseller built a solution around the one thing that couldn't move, the CEO's US number, and solved the cost problem around it.
Key elements included:
- A like-for-like number port, moving the CEO's existing number from Verizon to AT&T, so the number the CEO relies on stayed the same.
- Cost-effective roaming and international bundles on the AT&T line, built for occasional use across Europe and further afield, replacing the ad hoc charges the CEO had been racking up.
- A Vodafone UK eSIM added alongside it, giving the CEO dedicated, local UK data on the same device without switching or juggling SIMs.
- One device, two networks, so the CEO experienced no change in how they used their phone day to day.
- Consolidated management for UK head office, giving the IT manager one place to see and control the costs, rather than chasing a single foreign carrier bill.
Working with Cellhire allowed us to retain the client's mobile account and keep both the CEO and IT manager happy. A win-win for everyone.
Anonymised reseller partner, Cellhire wholesale channelResult
- The client account retained. The reseller solved the CEO's connectivity problem before it became a reason to look elsewhere and kept the relationship in-house.
- Two stakeholders, one outcome. The CEO kept the number and the working pattern they were used to; the IT manager got the cost control they needed, with no compromise.
- Costs brought under control, replacing uncapped roaming exposure with bundled rates built for how the CEO travels.
- A repeatable model for other frequent travellers, built on a number port and a second local eSIM rather than a one-off fix.
- Proof of what a wholesale partner adds, with the reseller able to deliver a multi-network outcome no single carrier could offer on its own.
