How do I access voicemail from the handset?

An envelope symbol or message notification message will appear when you have received a new Voicemail message.
Press the button under MESSAGE and select to call Voicemail.
When prompted, enter PIN code 1020.

How do I answer a Direct Connect (Walkie-Talkie) call?

To answer a call, simply press and hold the Push To Talk walkie-talkie button and talk.
Release the button to listen.

How do I place a Direct Connect (Walkie-Talkie) call?

If the phonebook has been pre-programmed, scroll through the phone book to locate the name / number of the user.
Press and hold the Push To Talk walkie-talkie button on the side of your handset while you talk.
Or press the key under ALERT and then press the Push To Talk button.

If the phonebook has been pre-programmed, scroll and locate the Talk group name and press the Push To Talk (PTT) button and then select the button under JOIN to be included.
After the Chirp, begin speaking.
Release the (PTT) button to receive a response.
Continue as if on a Direct Connect call.

Alternatively, press the # key and enter the Talk group Number assigned.

What do I do if the phone says Unregistered SIM?

Remove the SIM card and wipe the gold contacts and re-insert SIM

What types of coast-to-coast walkie-talkie calls can I make with the Nationwide Walkie-Talkie service?

Nextel Nationwide Walkie-Talkie service lets you make two types of walkie-talkie calls:

In-market:
You can travel to a different market and instantly connect with other walkie-talkie phone users in that area.
For example, you can instantly contact a business partner traveling with you as well as the client you're visiting.

Market-to-market:
You can make a Nationwide Walkie-Talkie call from any calling area to any calling area.
For example, when you're on the road, you can instantly contact a colleague back at the office.
Or, while in your home market, you can instantly contact a friend who lives three states away.

Why doesn't my Nextel SIM work in the US with the Cellhire phone rental?

Within the US, Nextel uses a network technology called iDEN. Your Cellhire GSM phone is not compatible with the iDEN network, and is only designed for overseas use.
Nextel allows the SIM card, located in the back of the handset, to be switched over to a GSM handset for international traveling.

Please contact Nextel's World Wide Service department at 1-866-840-9539 to facilitate the NWW feature being added to your account. Provided you have activated the NWW Roaming feature on the line, the phone will work when you arrive at your international destination.
